Mega Rome Day

Both third grade classes together at Mega Rome day!
One group making bullas (a child's necklaces), at 1 of the 6 booths!
Each group had a special colored "Eagle standard" to represent his or her group for the day, much like the Roman army.

Reclining and eating like Romans!  The children LOVED lunch!
My sweet friend's beautiful daughter making a mosaic piece of art.
One of my sweet students playing Roman dice games.  So precious!
Mega Rome day is the highlight of the third grader's year.  Although we begin with Creation and study history through Constantine, we really focus the majority of our time on ancient Greece and Rome.  On Mega Rome day we spend a day in our togas in the gym.  There are 6 booths with art projects and games that are Roman in nature.  Lunch is prepared on trays and the children recline on blankets, just like the Romans.  It is an entire day of fun and learning!  I loved the laurel wreaths and togas.  It was so exciting and a tradition that will be the highlight of my winter for years to come!

Greek floats

Getting lined up for the parade!

30 happy children
The sweet third graders chose a theme or character from ancient Greek history and made a "float" for a parade that they got to share with the other grammar students.  Essentially, they decked out shoe boxes into every thing from a Trojan horse to the ancient Olympics.  We were quite impressed!  And they were all so proud and so creative!  These are wonderful students!

The writing on the wall

Today we learned about Belshazzar and the infamous "writing on the wall". The kids made their own renditions on paper. Then, they started creating all kinds of chants and poems about Belshazzar and Daniel. I had them write down one of their own creations. Here they are:

Mene Mene Bellchazar.
If you were at golf you'd maybe get a par!
God said I really really want you,
what about your poo?
(silly, bodily function- infatuated Toot)

Mene, mene, Bellshazar,
you will die so far.
If you wish to fled,
you will definitely bled.
Now this is true,
you may get the flu.
God wrote on the wall,
you broke His law.

A real trip to Egypt, almost

Yesterday we had a once in a lifetime experience. We saw the King Tut exhibit. What a brilliant civilization! We were not allowed to take pictures of the artifacts. But we snapped a few pictures in the lobby.

And then we had lunch at a very cool Mellow Mushroom.

And we were back to the museum for the 3-D movie on pyramids and mummification.

I am grateful for an amazing opportunity! I was inspired by the Egyptians obsession with the afterlife. If only we would set our sights more often on heaven with the One True God! And we don't even have to earn his love during this life. I was thinking a lot about the freedom we have in Christ, as opposed to the slavery of life lived under the pressure of earning a right standing with "the gods". I am very thankful today.
